The Roots of Major League BaseballNews about Major League Baseball There are very few people who don't love the sport of baseball. For some people, it's an enjoyable way to pass an afternoon but for others, it goes much deeper than that. Article continues below. Some fans are rarely seen without their team's colors and they are never absent from the games. Even though they have such a love for the game, many individuals are not aware of the roots of baseball. It is a very interesting tale. Even though the exact origins of the sport are unknown, it is felt to come from an old English game that is known as roundball. After coming to the states, it went through several different transformations before eventually settled in to the sport that is similar to what is played today. The official rules are thought to have been put down in 1945 by a man named Alexander Cartwright. Prior to the Civil War, in 1858, the National Association of Baseball Players came into existence but interest in the sport was short lived. It wasn't until after the Civil War ended that there was a renewed interest in baseball and it has continued to grow into what we now see today. It's interesting to note that the original players of the sport were actually amateurs and it was very rare that they were ever paid for playing. Eventually, however, this rule changed as is indicated by what is seen in the baseball salaries today. As the sport continues to move on into the future, it's difficult to tell where it will end. |
